Three tornadoes hit Massachusetts on Monday as the slow post-tropical cyclone Henri moved east.
HENRI, NOW A TROPICAL LOW, STILL BRINGING HEAVY RAIN
Boston’s National Weather Service (NWS) shared on Twitter that the three EF-0 tornadoes struck in less than two hours.
According to the agency’s preliminary damage investigation report, one tornado struck at 11:40 a.m. ET in Marlborough, a second hit Bolton at 12:30 p.m. and a third was confirmed in Stow at 1:10 p.m.
All three had estimated peak winds of between 60 and 70 mph, with the strongest at Stow.
The NWS later wrote that it had received video of a waterspout on Sunset Lake in Ashburnham at 3:30 p.m.
“We received a video of a waterspout on Sunset Lake in Ashburnham, MA starting at 3:30 p.m. That being said, our tornado count still remains at 3 because a waterspout does not meet the criteria, if it does not cause of damage over again we can confirm 3 tornadoes and 1 waterspout, ”he said.
Blown down trees have clogged roads and resulted in power outages for residents.
According to WHDH, a tree was overturned in a car in a Boston neighborhood as conditions continued until Tuesday morning.
Flood watches were also in effect across the state on Monday evening as residents of the northeast began to cleanse themselves of the storm as it made its way out to sea.
Thousands of people were still without power on Tuesday in Rhode Island, where the Henry center made landfall on Sunday.
President Biden has declared disasters in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and Connecticut.

NWS Boston wrote that the soaked Massachusetts would see sunshine and warmer temperatures this week.
No death has been attributed to Henri so far.
