Three tourists were reportedly arrested after assaulting a New York City restaurant hostess when she asked for proof of their vaccine status before they could sit inside, reports The New York Times.
Driving the news: Mayor Bill de Blasio signed an executive order to require proof of vaccination in New York City to participate in indoor activities, including visiting gyms and restaurants. The order went into effect on September 13.
The big picture: Images obtained by NBC New York show that the incident took place outside Italian restaurant Carmine’s on Thursday.
- Three tourists, from Texas, reportedly began repeatedly beating the 22-year-old hostess after she asked them to prove they were vaccinated against COVID-19 before entering the restaurant. The host had to be taken to hospital after the attack, according to the NYT.
- On Friday evening, a lawyer representing the three women said they all had proof of vaccination which had been “arbitrarily and unwarrantedly questioned” because they were black and did not attempt to “rape with”. force ”the obligation to show it to enter the restaurant, by the NYT.
- Jeffrey Bank, managing director of Alicart Restaurant Group, owner of Carmine’s, has denied the attorney’s claims. “The facts will not confirm it,” he said.
