Thirty people were injured Saturday afternoon when a Turkish Airlines plane bound for New York faced severe turbulence, officials said.
"There was about a second or two when it was subtle, but then it really started to take off," said passenger Amir Mehrbakhsh, according to the Associated Press. Flight 1 of Turkish Airlines encountered turbulence about 45 minutes before landing at JFK airport, Coleman added.
The spokesman for the Port Authority said the other airport operations were not affected.
An emergency situation was declared after the landing of the Boeing 777 and a dozen ambulances were waiting at Terminal 1, but the New York Fire Department said that none of these injuries did not put his life in danger.
