300-acre wildfire in Davis County causes power outages

DAVIS COUNTY, Utah – A new wildfire in Davis County, near Farmington and Kaysville on Friday, temporarily lost power to thousands of residents.

The Kaysville Fire Department posted on Facebook that “some evacuations have taken place closest to the fire,” but South Davis Metro Fire then tweeted that there were no evacuations. We are awaiting clarification.

However, officials had said earlier that a change in winds could push the blaze towards areas where structures are at risk.

The lightning blaze, which authorities have named the Legacy Fire, is located west of Interstate 15 and east of Antelope Island. Latest estimates were as high as 300 acres.

Power of the Rocky Mountains confirmed that the wildfire was the cause of two major power outages in the neighboring region, with 8,062 customers affected. The outages were first reported just before 7 p.m., but power was restored around 8 p.m. for all but 16 customers.

Without any means for crews to access the fire, the Utah State Forestry, Fire and Lands Division will allow it to burn. Crews have put up a firebreak on the West Davis Corridor in case the winds change.
