Third-party company SUP3R5 will sell 304 custom black PlayStation 5 consoles inspired by the design of the PS2 later this week.
The consoles, which will ship with a black DualSense controller, will start at $ 649, while another 500 DualSense pads will be available for $ 99.
SUP3R5 will take pre-orders starting January 8 at 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. UK.
Customers will be able to create a profile and save their information on the SUP3R5 website before pre-orders go live in order to speed up the payment process and the company says it will “put in place security measures” to combat scalpers and bots.
In an FAQ, the US-based company confirms that it will ship products internationally, including to the UK, although if customers manage to order one successfully, it’s unclear exactly when they will. will receive it.
“We plan to start shipping controllers and consoles in late spring 2021,” SUP3R5 says. “Although this may change depending on availability, we will do our best to avoid delays.”
Refunds can be requested at any time before orders are dispatched, but there is no standard return policy, although exceptions can be made for defective products.
SUP3R5 notes that the DualSense controller is disassembled as part of the conversion process, voiding Sony’s standard warranty coverage.
“The consoles, however, are not taken apart as part of the conversion process, so we don’t think you will have any issues with warranty service for your console through Sony,” he adds.
Canadian peripherals company Dbrand recently announced that it will be taking orders for a range of black PS5 faceplates soon and has rejected suggestions that Sony may stop.
Dbrand’s product launch follows a high-profile case in the UK that saw a company cancel plans to create custom PS5 facades after Sony allegedly threatened legal action.
Asked by a Reddit user if he feared similar legal action on its front faces, Dbrand dismissed the notion, writing, “We encourage them to give it a try.” A caption on his Reddit post also reads, “sue us, Sony.”
Last month, another peripheral company, Game Armor, launched pre-orders for its own PS5 facades, available in matte black, red, and blue with an introductory price of $ 35.
Content creator CptnAlex, who launched Game Armor in December, has explained why he doesn’t expect his company to get on the wrong side of Sony.
He wrote: “Because our name is not deceptively close to a brand name, because our product does not include brand logos, and because our armor is designed differently enough not to infringe patents.” design, we are able to sell safely. “
