Who is Ben Sasse?
This time it was the answer – and nobody knew it.
Not Robin Falco, a nonprofit administrator of the King of Prussia, Pas Pas Tyler Lee, an international banking project manager from Hollis, N.Y. And, notably, not James Holzhauer, a professional sports player from Las Vegas.
None of them could tell the Canadian gentleman the name of the Nebraska Senator and author of "They: Why Hate Me – and How to Heal." Not even if the inquisitor had paid them.
Indeed, he would have it.
Because it was "Jeopardy!" And there was a $ 2,000 worth of loot on the line. However, several seconds passed under the silence, until the facilitator Alex Trebek finally informs them, with a slight concern, that the correct answer was Senator Ben Sasse (R-Neb. ).
If this had been another generation of competitors, it could have stopped there, just another forgotten piece in the history of the series, which has been going on for decades. But this group included Holzhauer, the man called "unstoppable", "dynamic", "cool-headed", "absolutely crazy" and "a cyborg" for his record dominance, Jeopardy!

And even he could not tell Trebek the name of a senator for the first time, one of the 100 Americans who sit in this chamber. Brent Scher, a Washington Free Beacon writer, posted it on Twitter.
"The most impressive champion of @Jeopardy's story had no idea who Ben Sasse was," he wrote.
Holzhauer's obscure knowledge of his subject has allowed him to answer nearly 700 questions correctly and have earned him over a million dollars. He has identified 19th century novels and literary characters from the 20th century, superheroes and stamps. But anyway, a sitting US senator was not on his radar.
To be fair, however, many people do not know Sasse.
Nearly a quarter of registered voters, according to Morning Consult, found that 24% of respondents said they had not heard of Sasse. (However, 49% of people perceived it favorably, more than 20% more than those who put it at a disadvantage.)
At the present time, 24% of senators are halfway there. It could be worse. It could be Gary Peters (D-Mich.), That 43% of registered voters did not know (and that would have inspired an even more difficult question: He is the young senator from Michigan and the great-grandson of a civil war soldier …).
But if the question had been asked about Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), Holzhauer – and many other Americans – would probably have played right away. In the same Morning Consult survey, only 7% of voters had not heard of Sanders.

The Washington Post contacted Sasse's office Wednesday afternoon to comment on the situation. At the time, however, the senator was a little concerned to question Attorney General William P. Barr about the influence of a Russian oligarch on the US elections.
However, at the end of the hearing, Sasse invoked a replica of the series: "I'm going to take" uncomfortable and uncomfortable silences "for a thousand dollars, Alex …" he wrote on Twitter.
The missed question is added to a short list of just over 30 people that Holzhauer was wrong or did not know (New York Magazine did a diligent chronicle and presented them as quizzes to make right here). There, Sasse finds himself in company of Panic at the Disco, "Pulp Fiction", monsters of the lake and the Quakers, among others.
To date, Holzhauer has won 20 consecutive games and has erased the record of single-game wins. It seems destined to overthrow "Jeopardy!" The record of Ken Jennings, savior, for most wins and consecutive wins – that is, unless another mysterious Midwestern senator does not stop him.
