Truck yeahTrucks are good! The Toyota 4Runner 2020 boasts Apple CarPlay compatibility, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa, some driver assistance alerts in standard equipment and a revised dashboard. But the best novelty of the SUV is the Army Green color that you can now specify on the TRD Pro.
This color will also be available on the leading Tacoma, Tundra and even Sequoia and 4Runner TRD Pro off-road liners. Not the Land Cruiser, though. "Midnight Black Metallic" is the special color about it right now.
Toyota Introduces "TRD Pro" Range for 4×4 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra Vehicles back in 2014 to appeal to people who wanted the shocks and tires of the aftermarket, but wanted to either maintain factory-approved manufacturing quality, or simply did not want to open a parts catalog. (This year, Sequoia also received TRD Pro treatment.)
These trucks are not as extreme as the Ford Raptor, but they look great and have a decent practical capability, even if they are not entirely natural.
Before you get distracted by a 4Runner test and Toyota's off-road version history, let's get back to the "news" of the 2020: Army Green version. It's great, and I can not imagine ordering a TRD Pro in another color. Toyota's image of the manufacturing site and prices can be trusted, but Toyota has managed to create a unique and durable finish without becoming a completely militarist in a very gentle way.
I have not been able to find a picture of the 4Runner painted this way on the outside, but here are some pictures of a taco Army Green 2020:

Unfortunately, Toyota is notoriously stingy with its beautiful colors. That electrifying Voodoo Blue that you could order last year is now gone (though it's still available on the Tacoma TRD Sport less extreme, so it seems), so if you're a fan of Army Green, you will have to order it for 2020 or prepare for a long hunt on the used car market on the road.
And if you want to go beyond the sheet metal, here is a list of upcoming major changes to the Toyota 4Runner 2020, announced by the factory:
- Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with swing warning, automatic high beam and dynamic radar speed controller (DRCC), standard on all versions
- Two other USB chargers
- New dashboard design, 8-inch high-resolution touch screen for Audio, Audio Plus and Premium Audio systems
- Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa Compatibility
- Standard Smart Key with Push Button Start for TRD Pro, SR5 Premium and TRD Offroad Road Premium
- TRD Pro gets updated HVAC controls borrowed from the Limited
You may have noticed that the radar cruise control sensor was occupying part of the truck grille on all these images. It therefore seems that the security technology of the 4Runner will also be integrated with other models. We know for a fact that TSS-P security technology is at least standardized on the Tacoma line.
I still miss a few tens of thousands of dollars to get a new 4Runner, but I can not wait to see them on the road.
