The developer announced earlier this year that Ichiban Kasuga assumed the role of main character of the franchise after the events of Yakuza 6 puts the former gangster favorite of all, Kazuma Kiryu, off duty. Unlike the other games in the series, which mainly take place in Kamurocho (based on Tokyo's red-light district of Kabukicho) and Sotenbori (based on Dotonbori in Osaka), Yakuza 7 takes place in Yokohama. The presentation also revealed that the story extends from 2000 to 2019 and that the game's website even has a button that lets you switch between the old and the new look from Kasuga.

In a deleted tweet, Sega said that Yakuza: like a dragon (Ryu Ga Gotoku 7) will be released in Japan on January 16, 2020 for the PS4. The Chinese and Korean versions will be available the same day, while its launch in the US and Europe will not take place until the end of next year.
