4 injured in Timberview HS shooting, search continues for suspect Timothy Simpkins – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The ‘Everything’s Clear’ was given to Timberview High School in Arlington after an active shooter situation Wednesday morning, but the search for a suspected armed teenager continues.

A person with a gun opened fire on the 2nd floor of Timberview High School in the 7000 block of South Watson Road in Arlington at around 9:15 am The school is in the Mansfield Independent School District.

Arlington Deputy Police Chief Kevin Kolbye has confirmed that there are 4 casualties from the situation. Three people were taken to a local hospital. An injured person refused to seek treatment on the spot.

During a morning press conference, Kolbye said he was not sure Timberview had metal detectors.

Two of the victims are said to have gunshot wounds. Among those transported to local hospitals, 2 of the victims were students and the other was described as an “elderly person” who could be a teacher.

Police are looking for Timothy George Simpkins who they believe is a person of interest, who may be driving a silver-colored 2018 Dodge Charger. The Texas license plate on the vehicle is – PFY-6260.

Simpkins, 18, is considered armed and dangerous. “This is not a random act of violence,” Kolbye said. “This is not someone attacking our school.”

The school was immediately quarantined, and students and staff were locked in their classrooms / offices. The Mansfield ISD has started the process of family reunification. Officials said the students were “safely” escorted to the buses.

CBS 11 News reporter Nicole Jacobs spoke to a parent who described information obtained from their child inside a classroom. “He said the doors are locked and the police still haven’t found the shooter,” the mother recalls. “I haven’t been able to reach my son for 20 minutes… during our last conversation I heard the other children cry and scream in the classroom.

From Chopper 11, heavy police activity and dozens of people could be seen outside.

Arlington Police Department officials confirmed that ATF Dallas Field Division, Mansfield Police, Grand Prairie Police and Mansfield ISD Police were all working at the scene and carrying out a “systematic search” of campus.

Mansfield ISD has set up a reunification place where adults can pick up students. Parents are told to go to the Center for Performing Arts, located at 1110 West Debbie Lane in Mansfield. Police said the students would eventually be bused to the location once the school is fully secured and officers are on the scene. The current student population is approximately 2,000.

CBS 11 News photographer Vince Bosquez reported live on CBS 11 News that police surrounded a house where they believed the suspect lived. This location is near Ragland Road, in the 8000 block of South Collins.

As a precaution, the following ISD Arlington schools are on lockdown as police search for one or more suspects related to the active shooter event:

  • Arlington Collegiate High School at Tarrant County College
  • Ashworth Elementary School
  • Barnett School
  • Beckham Elementary School
  • Bebensee Elementary School
  • Bowie High School
  • Bryant Elementary School
  • Hale Elementary School
  • Ousley High School
  • STEM Pearcy Academy

A lock means that all exterior school doors are locked from the inside. Administrators say all students at these schools are safe inside and teaching and learning will continue.
