The UNC Basketball program hopes to finish its 2021 class with one more commitment as we hit that stretch run in 2021. But as that cycle ends in the spring, that of 2022 starts to heat up.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of news regarding the 2022 recruiting class and North Carolina goals. The latest is a Target who has yet to receive an offer from the program, but who has a very high opinion of the Tar Heels.

Four-star shooter Isaac McKneely has 19 offers in his roster, but recently downsized his roster to 8 and focuses on Kentucky, West Virginia, Illinois, Louisville, Purdue, Indiana, Virginia and North Carolina. North. All of those programs on this list offered McKneely with the exception of Kentucky and the Tar Heels, but they’re still up for grabs.

Most recently, McKneely spoke to Jamie Shaw of Rivals.com about his recruiting and broke down his 8 finalists. The guard had good things to say about UNC:

“I built a good relationship with one of the assistants. I’m good friends with Puff Johnson
who is currently on the list and he said great things to me. UNC is a great school on and off the court. I also think I could play very well for Coach (Roy) Williams.

One of the cool parts of this is that he talks about being good friends with current freshman Donovan “Puff” Johnson. McKneely is also close to Puff’s brother Cam, who spent two seasons at UNC before being a lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He even said Puff was helping recruit McKneely to UNC. a few months ago which should be a big advantage for the Tar Heels.

Although UNC has yet to offer its offer, interest still seems high and an offer could come very soon.

In his junior season, McKneely saw his stock increase as he climbed 37 places to 57th in the Rivals standings. If he continues, it won’t be shocking to see him enter the Top 50 and continue to build up his stock.
