COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – 411 workers are trying to determine their next steps after the brutal closure of a Kroger bakery in Columbus, Ohio, which has cut their jobs.
The Cincinnati-based Kroger grocery chain announced Feb. 11 the closure of its 90-year-old Bakery in Columbus, due to the "outdated layout and age" of the equipment. 39; plant.
Kroger says workers will be paid 60 days before receiving severance pay based on their years of service, as stated in a collective agreement.
The company encourages bakery workers to apply for jobs at other Kroger facilities.
Chase Ragland, who worked at the bakery for nearly seven years, told Columbus Dispatch that he was looking for another job while hoping to go back to school to get a degree in physiotherapy.
