The San Francisco 49ers announced Thursday the release of LB Brock Coyle. In addition, the team signed a two-year contract between LB David Mayo and a one-year contract for CB Jason Verrett. The team also announced that LB Elijah Lee had signed his exclusive bid for one year.

Coyle (6-1, 245) has participated in 17 games (11 starts) in the past two seasons with the team, after being hired as a free agent on March 10, 2017. He has recorded 68 tackles, a defensive passage, a forced fumble and 0.5 bag to go with two tackles on special teams.
Mayo (6-2, 245) was originally selected in the fifth round (169th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers. In the last four seasons (2015-18) with Carolina, he has appeared in 59 games (four starts) and has recorded 34 tackles and a defensive pass in defense to complete 32 tackles for the special teams. He also competed in four playoff competitions with Carolina. In 2018, Mayo participated in 16 games (three starts) and finished with nine tackles and two special tackles.
A native of Scappoose, OR, 25, Mayo spent three seasons (2012-14) at Texas State University after a year (2011) at Santa Monica (CA) College. With the Bobcats, he played 29 games (28 starts) during which he scored 284 tackles, 10 defeat tackles, seven defensive passes, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks and two chip recoveries. As a senior in 2014, Mayo was named defensive player of the year at the Sun Belt conference and first All-Sun Belt conference after leading the conference with 154 tackles to follow with 4.5 tackles for the loss, three forced fumbles, two defensive passes, 1.5 sacks and a fumble salvage.
Verrett (5-10, 188) was originally drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the first round (25th overall) of the NFL draft in 2014. During his five years with the Chargers (2014-18), he has participated in 25 games (22 starts) and has recorded 80 tackles, 18 assists and five interceptions (one touchdown). In 2015, Verrett was selected for the Pro Bowl after 14 games (13 starts) and finished with career highs in tackles (47), defensive passes (11), interceptions (three) and the first interception has returned for a touchdown in his career.
A native of Fairfield, California, Verrett attended Texas Christian University for three years (2011-2013) for three years (2011-2013), having spent the 2010 season at Santa Rosa Junior High School (CA).
