The 49ers fear that rookie receiver Shawn Poindexter will tear an anterior cruciate ligament, coach Kyle Shanahan announced Tuesday via Matt Maiocco of NBCSportsBayArea.com.
Poindexter injured his knee in special teams in the second half of Monday's pre-season game against the Broncos.
He played in attack attack and four in special teams on Monday. In the opening match, he caught two passes for 12 yards against the Cowboys.
Poindexter appeared as a candidate for the 49ers practice team.
The 49ers hired receiver Chris Thompson to take Poindexter's place in the formation, Shanahan said.
