The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone’s lives and will impact where the 49ers will play their final home games.
Santa Clara County, home of the 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium, released new COVID-19 restrictions on Saturday banning all contact sports and imposing a 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling in the area 150 km away, meaning that the 49ers will need a new one at home to complete the 2020 season.
The news came as a shock to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, who spoke out for the first time after his team’s 23-20 win over the Rams on Sunday in Los Angeles.
“What we had yesterday was very disappointing,” said Shanahan, via ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “For us to find this out as we get on a plane … it was extremely disappointing.”
Shanahan added that the team had not been notified in advance of the impending ban, finding out via social media and receiving little additional information from county officials on the reasoning behind the decision or how the situation of the 49ers Could Negatively Affect County’s COVID-19 Problems, Per Wagoner and Athletic’s David Lomardi.
“We worked with them as a partner to try to understand,” Shanahan said. “For everyone to know without telling us, it was extremely disappointing.”
Niners running back Raheem Mostert was particularly emotional, according to reporters, discussing the uncertainty the team faced.
