Here they are … the Arizona 49ers !!
Okay, technically they’re still the SF 49ers – but they officially trained at their new ‘home’ stadium in Arizona on Thursday for the first time since being forced out of the Bay Area due to COVID rules.
Just a few days ago the 49ers were told they were going no longer be authorized to train or play games at their home establishment in Santa Clara after county officials imposed activity restrictions to try to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
So the representatives of the Niners and the NFL worked with the Arizona Cardinals train and play for the foreseeable future at Glendale at State Farm Stadium … and so far it looks like the team is ok with the new setup.
The 49ers took part in drills and practice Thursday … just days before they face the Buffalo Bills in “Monday Night Football” at the stadium next week.
The Niners will stay in Arizona the following week for their December 13 game against the Washington football team … before hitting the road to face the Cowboys in Dallas on December 20.
The team will be back in Arizona for a “road” game against the Cardinals on December 26 – so, yes, get ready to call Glendale home for the Niners for a while!
The Niners are struggling to advance to the playoffs – they’re 5-6 – so a home playoff game at Glendale is unlikely.
Pretty good situation for the 49ers all things considered – especially with the weather … it’s going to be 70 and sunny this weekend!
Don’t forget your SPF!
