The San Francisco 49ers have announced that cornerback K’Waun Williams has been suspended two games for PED. Williams was suffering from a sprained ankle and was unlikely to play the next two games anyway. Williams is eligible to return on December 8, following Monday night’s Week 13 game against the Bills.

Additionally, the 49ers have opened the practice windows for running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. Both players are eligible to play this Sunday against the Rams. Like Williams, the two were on the injured reserve with a high ankle sprain. They were the top two runners on this list. The return of Mostert and Wilson should be a significant boost for San Francisco’s rushed attack.

The 49ers have signed safety Chris Edwards to a one-year contract while Jaquaski Tartt, Johnathan Cyprien and Jared Mayden are all on the IR. Edwards (6-2, 215) initially entered the NFL after signing with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent on May 16, 2016. Oakland later dropped him on August 29, 2016.

From 2017-19, Edwards spent time in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos (2017-18) and British Columbia Lions (2019), where he played 53 games and recorded 112 tackles, four interceptions (including one returned for a touchdown), four forced fumbles and a sack. He signed a reserve / future contract with the 49ers on January 8, 2020, and was later canceled by the team on August 4.

The 27-year-old native of Southfield, MI, Edwards attended the University of Idaho for two seasons (2014-15) after transferring from Butte (Oroville, Calif.) College. Edwards appeared in 18 games (12 starts) with the Vandals and recorded 76 tackles, three interceptions. Three assists defended a 1.0 sack, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble.

San Francisco also signed WR Shawn Poindexter and S Kai Nacua to the practice squad. Poindexter (6-5, 218) initially signed with the 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 3, 2019. He spent his entire rookie season on the team’s injured reserve list after being called off / injured on August 21, 2019. He spent training camp with the 49ers before being abandoned by the team on September 5, 2020.

Nacua (6-0, 205) entered the NFL after signing with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2017. In three seasons in the NFL with the Browns (2017), Baltimore Ravens (2018) ), Carolina Panthers (2018)), and Indianapolis Colts (2019), he has played 16 games (three starts) and recorded 13 tackles.
