Five alleged gang members were charged with attempted murder and other charges after investigators reported that the group attacked, stabbed and attacked a pregnant Catholic teacher in southern California last week.

Tanya Nguyen, 33, parked her car in front of her house on March 20, when she was attacked by Christian Reyes, 20, Andrew Bran, 19, and Jesus Morales, 18. years, according to the investigators. In a video released Monday, Nguyen was heard screaming and imploring with his attackers, telling them at one point: "I'm pregnant!"

Despite his entreaties, Nguyen was stabbed nearly a dozen times – including in the face – suffering from a perforated lung and loss of the front tooth, reported Fox 11. The assailants then took Nguyen's car, hitting other vehicles as they tried to leave.

Reyes, Bran, Morales and two other alleged accomplices – Christina Luna, 24, and Monica Gomez, 25 – were brought to justice on Monday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. All five were charged with a charge of attempted murder, car theft, second-degree robbery and unfair conduct resulting in property damage. Reyes faces a separate charge for aggravated chaos and an allegation of personal use of a deadly and dangerous weapon.

Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said Reyes' bail was recommended at $ 1.9 million, including $ 1.4 million for the other four defendants. All five face up to life imprisonment for being convicted.

Nguyen, who teaches freshman at Good Shepherd Catholic School in Beverly Hills, has since been treated for injuries and discharged from a hospital, KABC reported. In a video posted on YouTube and Facebook on Sunday, Nguyen thanked people for their support.

"Hello everyone, thank you very much for your love and support," said Nguyen, moved. "I am completely overwhelmed by the situation and very grateful for your support and your presence during this period.

"I will get through that, I promise."

A GoFundMe fundraising page for Nguyen's care had raised more than $ 45,000 on Tuesday night.
