Welcome to the 287th edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the headlines of last week:
- Office Depot paid $ 25 million this week for phony antivirus scans. The company had a deceptive form that drove people to pay $ 300 for what was ultimately an unnecessary repair. This program was run from 2009 to 2016 before being finally stopped. Another company, Support.com, also disbursed $ 10 million for the investigation.
- Minit is coming soon on mobile. It's a rather unique game. Players only have one minute to play. You do as many things as you can during this time and then the game ends. Minit has been a huge success on console and PC, so we hope the game will work as well on mobile. We do not have any details on the launch date of the game or the prices. Stay tuned for more!
- The Android Android rebuild is being rolled out this year. We met with some members of Snapchat's development team to discuss the behind the scenes of this huge project. They talked about identifying the problem, how to solve it, their previous code-based problems and many other topics. Click on the link to read the full story!
- Google had some good things happen this week. To begin, Google Duplex is finally deployed on non-Pixel phones in the United States. According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are among the first to get it. In addition, John Legend's voice finally officially entered Google Assistant earlier this week. It's a long time coming for that one.
- Google has also had bad news this week. Google+ officially closed on April 2, 2019 as scheduled. You can still download your old data if you wish, but access to the site has now disappeared. In addition, Inbox by Gmail was also officially closed on April 2, 2019. The Gmail team has already uploaded lots of inbox features directly to Gmail. However, it will never be quite the same as Inbox. Affected individuals can view our selection of the best Google Inbox alternatives here.
Lightbeam allows you to share your screen with other Android devices. It basically transforms any application into a hassle-free, collaborative experience. Basically, you connect to other Lightbeam users and they see what is happening on your screen or vice versa. It's a bit of a niche app and we can not think of a widespread use that you would need. However, it worked quite well in our tests, although some improvements in stability could be helpful. It's still early, but this one is very promising.
Grand Mountain Adventure is a new ski game for Android. It presents surprisingly sumptuous graphics, simple controls and a very satisfying game mechanics. It's an open world game and it means no missions, no closed areas and no specific quests. You simply ski through the wilderness. Players also encounter items such as deer, bears, and other NPC skiers and surfers, as well as potentially deadly avalanches. It has a lower graphics mode for low specification devices, so most phones should play as well.
Holey Light is the latest app from Chainfire, developer of many amazing things and Hidey Hole. This is another application especially for the Galaxy S10, S10e and S10 Plus. It allows you to turn your hole punch cutout into a notification light. It's a little naked at the moment and only works when it's plugged in or with the screen turned on. The feature to use it on battery with the screen off is still in progress. Nevertheless, it is such a good idea for S10 owners that we had to write about it. This can be useful now, but in a few updates, it will be much better when all the features will work properly. Until then, it is in beta and completely free.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a new action RPG from the Elder Scrolls universe. Players can create a character from any breed of franchise. In addition, players are looking for various materials, evolve their characters and rebuild a city ransacked by a real queen of fools. Bethesda has actually opened the beta of early access to everyone without invitation or expectation. So, you can download the application and play it now. Keep in mind that this game is not over yet and that all progress is reported to the full game when it is released. S & # 39; fun!
Spark Email jumped on the opportunity to launch when Inbox by Gmail stopped. It's a good move and, fortunately, the application itself is very good too. The application has many desirable features, including a repeat function, a later send function, reminders, various customization options, email identification, smart searches and a tool for intelligent prioritization. It supports most current email clients such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and many others. It's also completely free. Google Play reviews complain about some bugs here and there, but nothing that seems too serious.
