Truck crashes into Tampa Waffle House
Two people were seriously injured when a pickup truck crashed into a Tampa Waffle House. It happened Sunday afternoon at Waffle House on West Columbus Driver. Catherine Hawley of FOX 13 has the story.
TAMPA, Florida – Five people were injured Sunday afternoon after a pickup truck crashed into a Tampa Waffle House.
This happened around 2 p.m. at the restaurant located at 3009 W. Columbus Dr.
According to Tampa Fire Rescue, two people, an adult and a child were seriously injured and were taken to an area hospital due to trauma alerts. Two other patients were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Witnesses say the Waffle House was packed when the crash happened.
Customers also tell FOX 13 that the truck smashed restaurant windows and drove halfway through the business before stopping.
Rescuers say an elderly man, who is a regular customer of the restaurant, was behind the wheel during the crash, but it is not known what caused it.
The Tampa Police Department is investigating. It is not clear whether the driver will face charges.
