Police in Sumner County, Tennessee, located a person of interest in connection with the deaths of five people found in two separate homes on Saturday night.
Officials from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) visited a house on Charles Brown Road where four people were found dead, while a fifth victim was found at another residence on Luvy Daniels Road.
Victims were not identified.
Police said that a few hours after the launch of the manhunt, 25-year-old Michael Cummins had been arrested as a person of interest. He has not been called a suspect at the present time and has not yet been charged with any crime, the authorities said.
"He was found in a remote area very close to where these events occurred," said Josh Devine, TBI's director of communications, Saturday night.
Devine said that a search aircraft flying over the area had spotted an individual in a wooded area and had sent officers on the spot. Cummins was hiding in a creek bed and unsheathed his weapon as the officers approached. The police opened fire and beat Cummins at least once. He was transported to the hospital.
No law enforcement officer was injured.
Earlier in the night, they had warned that he could be armed.
"It may be in the woods near the scene and armed. If you spot it, call 911 immediately," says TBI's Twitter account.
At this point, officials are not aware of the relationship between Cummins and the victims, but the investigation is still ongoing, DeVine said at a press conference held on Saturday.

Cummins measures 5 feet 7 inches and weighs 180 pounds, police said. Up to 150 law enforcement officers search the rural area.
Police are urging residents to lock their doors and call 911 if someone knocks on the door.
