50 things to know about this year's game

Is there an annual worldwide version of the sports video game more important than the annual decline of NBA 2K? Madden and FIFA from EA Sports can make their point, but it's no exaggeration to say that the next version of NBA 2K20 is a major deal. NBA2K19's is sold at 12 million copies and you can bet that Take-Two Interactive has targeted even bigger numbers this year, and that does not even touch the revenue generated by microtransactions.

The madness has already begun with pre-orders, an expansive demo and an extremely attractive development team led by gameplay producer Mike Wang, Robby Haught, Samuel Nino, Scott O Gallagher, Zach Timmerman and Jerson Sapida who are communicating with the community. more this year than I can remember in previous versions.

I've gone through all the developer logs and have had the opportunity to play for eight hours in an almost final version. I'm waiting for the commercial version to complete my review before the September 6th release date on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. For now, here's a list of the 50 most important things to know about the NBA 2K20 before it's released.

I divided them into five categories.

gameplay

• Speed still kills – Finally, speed is still a major weapon. This return to a realistic game allowed the guards to have an advantage over the big defenders. In recent versions of 2K, the large ones have been able to keep the little ones on the perimeter much too easily.
• However, Ease Up on Turbo – Even though speed is even more of a factor, do not be fooled by the turbo button. In my experience, it was easier to waste your player sending spam by turbo than in the past. A gassed player does not have access to all his animations and moves more laboriously in the field.
• Contrary to popular opinion, dribblers are not disturbed – I've heard a lot of early talk about advanced dribbling, but that's not the case. I'm not really Kyrie Irving on the sticks (I'm better with the big ones) but I did not have a problem doing dribbling and even chaining them once I went to 2KU. The mechanic feels slightly different, but the moves that most 2K fans like to make are still possible.
• Big guys feel heavier and stronger – When you dribble and sprint with a player from the front zone, your commands must be different and a little less free than those of the guards. Fortunately, this difference is present and the distinction is more noticeable in 2K20 than in previous versions.
• WNBA plays differently – I'm delighted to see the WNBA integrated into the game. Plus, I love the game differences between the game and the NBA's experience. The players move differently and, in some ways, the action unfolds even more smoothly than with the NBA players. It's not necessarily better, it's just different in a good way.
• The weight meter has grown, but it has shrunk again – When the demo is released and during the first preview, the counter size has been increased. However, at times, members of the 2K community complained. According to Wang, the size of the firing counter has been reduced to the size of 2K19.
• Tons of new badges – There are over 50 new badges in the game, and this is a welcome addition to the game. The new badges allow, in almost every mode, to individualize each player.
• The off-ball movement is much more important – This is undoubtedly the biggest change in the gameplay. It's probably equal to the speed threshold. Playing on the outside of the ball will be a real skill, especially in Pro-Am modes and other team-up modes. Badges like Slippery Offball and Off-Ball Pest will be very important.
• The rules of the shooting competition have changed – 2K has removed the classification of the shooting competition and the players must apparently get closer to an opponent to generate a competition of any type. This classification having disappeared, the level of the competition is dictated by the classification of the defense of the interior or the perimeter.
• New block animations – While I was playing with the game, I noticed beautiful new tracking and blocking animations. These are great moments in the game.
• New Dunk animations – It seems that each year, 2K soars in terms of animation dunk. I've already seen at least 10 new contact-dunk animations in the gameplay. I'm sure there are more.
• Increase the tangibility of the ball – I have to give YouTube OG Gideon Prime a boost for the term "balloon tangibility", but it's a great way to describe the ability to interact with the ball in various game situations. It seems like the ball is much more tangible in 2K20, and I like a little more than some players in the 2K community.

Graphics and presentation

• New facial animations – The NBA 2K players have been broadcasting for a while, but in 2K20, things have taken another level. You will see more smiles, smiles, grimaces and other emotional expressions in NBA 2K20.
• The halftime show is unchanged I do not care about the 2K NBA halftime show, and I've had the opportunity to share it with a developer this year. This is not the worst I have ever seen, but if you were hoping to see something different in 2K20, I did not see any upgrades to this aspect of the presentation.
• WNBA players are digitized and look great – The WNBA players are not only in the game, they are scanned with accurate rendering from head to toe. All WNBA experience looks and plays well.
• There are a ton of new and improved legendary renderings – You will notice several new renderings of legend thanks to Rytis Gineika, aka R4zor. 2K smartly imported Gineika from the modder community to restore legends and help add others who were not part of the game before. He did a fantastic job and the 2K's art team seamlessly integrated his work into the game.

MyCareer and neighborhood

• MyPlayer Builder – MyCareer is the most popular mode in the 2K universe and the new MyPlayer builder is at the center of it all this year. Originally, it was presented as a way to offer more options to players when they were trying to create their MyPlayers players. I think it's successful, but my experience with the demo left me a little frustrated because there are a number of great superstars that I can not recreate with precision, such as the MVP title, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Conceptually, I think it's a step in the right direction, but in the state, there are still constraints that I do not like. However, we have not seen the final version. Maybe there will be more freedom after the initial patch.
• MyCareer Story: This year's story seems to feature an element of social consciousness, and it was produced by LeBron James. The main character calls Che, but you can still use your own facial scanners. The trip takes you through the NBA Combine, the G League and other spots on the way to the NBA.
• No Women MyCareer Characters – Although the WNBA has been beautifully integrated, you still can not create MyPlayers this year. I think it's something that could be in NBA 2K21.
• Fastest way to 99 – In previous years, Road to 99 has been a daunting task that could take months to reach, and even then, it required a ton of discipline and hours. This year, you may be able to level your MyPlayer up to 95 in a few weeks. However, reaching a 99 is not a question of grinding, but of performance. You will have to make your way to the first place based on other measures built into this year's game.
• Representatives – The Park representative was huge a few years ago in NBA 2K and she is coming back this year. It's still the ultimate status symbol in the neighborhood.
• Deadliest Badges – I've already identified Slippery Off-Ball as one of the most effective badges, but Deep Fades, Clamps and Unpluckable are other that players should add when they fit their character and their style.
• Seasons in the neighborhood – The neighborhood seems to be getting livelier each year. This year, there will be seasonal changes (fall, spring, etc.) and celebrations such as Halloween and Christmas.
• Dodgeball Upgrade and other neighborhood mini-games – Dodgeball is back with what looks like an old western theme. There is also a circus, the return of cages and other wacky additions to the neighborhood.
• More events of the park – Park events have apparently become more elaborate. There is an Egyptian and Formula 1 theme that looked awesome in the trailer below. Viewing:
• Pro-Am 3 against 3 – We can have another esports event ready to flourish. There will now be a Pro-Am 3-in-3 rooftop mode. You can not see a lot in the trailer, but it's pretty self explanatory and interesting. As long as there is a balance, this could be another esports vehicle to accompany the NBA 2K League.
• Restaurants in the area – The restaurants in the trailer may be just decorations, but 2K made sure to show them during the trailer. I think that there may be more importance in MyCareer or in the neighborhood.

MyGM, MyLeague, Creation and Rosters

• The MLO servers were repaired – Last year, MyLeague Online's servers made the mode almost unplayable. I was told that the server problem had been fixed this year.
• No other news from MyLeague – Unfortunately, this is the other major addition to MyLeague this year.
• Always the best franchise mode – Despite the minimal additions, MyLeague remains the best franchise mode available for any sports video game. Due to the depth of last year, a fix for MLO was enough for this year's game.
• MyGM rankings – 2K aspires to add a meaning to MyGM. This year, some new systems are designed to create more challenges. There is a new mechanism of action points that requires you to be smarter with your time and attention. Depending on various factors, your work as a GM is noted on a points system. The most impressive players will see names ranked in a ranking that ranks the most effective virtual MJs in the 2K community.
• WNBA Season Mode – The last thing about the WNBA experience is the inclusion of a full season mode. It's not nearly as big as MyLeague, but at least you can play an entire WNBA campaign with your favorite team.
• Simplified scoring system – In addition to the shooting contest scoring, there are other attributes that have been removed and probably grouped into other categories returned. It's a welcome contraction for team members like me.
• No new hairstyles – On the other hand, there are no new hairstyles available to assign to your MyPlayer or to creators in offline mode. 2K offers a decent selection, but there are still a number of popular and extravagant styles that are not available in the game.
• Still can not give tattoos to offline players – Similarly, aligners can not apply tattoos to their offline creatives. It's something that I want for years, but it has not been added.
• The return of the teams of all the decades – Years ago, 2K had teams from all decades. This year they are back with new uniforms and a soft inner courtyard.
• New classic teams – Every two years, it seems that 2K adds more classic teams of the past. This year, the 2015-16 Cleveland Cavaliers, the 13-14 San Antonio Spurs, the 13-14 LA Clippers, the 06-07 Washington Wizards, the 09-10 Portland Trail Blazers and the 02-03 Phoenix Suns.
• Missing legends – Although 2K did a great job including the legends this year and in previous versions, there is a number of missing great past. Some can be added via an update.
• Player ranking – James and the new Clipper Kawhi Leonard are the top rated players in the game. New Orleans pelicans rookie is ranked 81 overall. Here is an overview of all evaluations:

MyTeam and play online now

• Daily connection prices – It seems that MyTeam offers players more ways to earn MyTeam points in this year's game. You will now get points, okens or packs to simply log in everyday. If you log in for an entire week, you will get a ride on the prize wheel that may have specific rewards such as cards, etc.
• New Drop Ball Screen – The ball drop screen for Triple Threat and Locker codes looks more like a pinball machine than it is now.
• Slot machine – The price wheel and the reintroduced ball drop screen are not the only new elements of MyTeam. There is also a slot machine for prizes.
• It looks like Vegas, but it's not the game – You may think that this looks a lot like a virtual Las Vegas and you may also wonder if a game item is put forward. I can see how there could be similar dopaminergic effects with flashing lights, etc. However, these options do not require real money, while many will spend to get virtual currency in the game, this is not necessary. I argue that self-control and monitoring of our children's behaviors are the keys to game management where it is possible to spend real money on in-game products.
• Locking the position in MyTeam – For me, the biggest addition to MyTeam this year is position locking. In NBA 2K19, the players abused the system by playing lineups with all the big players and because of the aforementioned speed threshold issues, there was no penalty. In MyTeam, there are still ways to exploit this because extracted cards can have bigger players faster than they would in real life. Fortunately, 2K has implemented a position lock that prevents most players from playing outside of their main position. Some players have a second position that can be unlocked, but this must be done by the user. It is always a logical filter such as PG / SG, SG / SF, SF / SG or PF / C.
• Changes in the triple threat – The triple threat has changed. Instead of playing a preselected trio, you will face random trios when you play in single-player mode.
• Changing difficulty settings in domination – You can now change the difficulty settings in Domination. Previously, you would be stuck in a less than difficult environment, which would make the already difficult games even longer.
• Evo Maps in MyTeam – Another novelty in the mode is Evolution Cards. Some of the mode cards can be improved through the challenges associated with the player. The ceiling is different for some cards, but some can be upgraded to a Galaxy Opal.
• The PRIME series replaces the 20th anniversary edition – The first pack of last year was the 20th anniversary collection. This collection will be replaced by the PRIME series, which may include past greats and 2K favorites such as Bradley Beal.
• New awards – There are new rewards everywhere in the mode. Some are related to the new Spotlight series that begins with a focus on Dwyane Wade, the Legend's Legend Covered Athlete Edition. Each targeted player will be assigned a set of challenges related to a moment in his career. If you complete the Wade Challenge Series, you get a Diamond Alonzo Mourning. There are other similar rewards in the game.
• No news from PNO probably means that there are no major updates – Like MLO, Play Now Online has not had a plethora of new options. In fact, beyond knowing that Pno is in the game after seeing it on the menu, I realize that I do not know anything else about the mode. This seems to be a sabbatical year for the PNO aspect of the 2K development team. Fans of head-to-head online mode should have a ton of variations with the choice of the opposing team. Because the league has so much parity, it's hard to locate the dominant team. With so many good teams, we could see more variety through the board.

• Simplified scoring system – In addition to the shooting contest scoring, there are other attributes that have been removed and probably grouped into other categories returned. It's a welcome contraction for team members like me.
