The Jets turned their pre-season finale against the Eagles into a thriller, as Kenny Yeboah caught a Hail Mary from James Morgan as time ran out in the fourth quarter. Josh Adams converted the ensuing two-point conversion attempt to end Friday night’s action in a 31-31 tie.
The Jets chose not to play the majority of their starters after the sky. It was probably for the best after the skies opened up ahead of the game at East Rutherford, soaking the turf at MetLife Stadium and pushing the kick-off back half an hour. As such, the New York pre-season finale featured players battling for their place in the 53-player roster.
Here are six takeaways from Gang Green’s last game of the preseason – the one the Jets survived undefeated.

The Jets played virtually none of their defensive starters Friday night, but there were some on the field in the first quarter when the Eagles scored two touchdowns. Philadelphia succeeded with the New York defensive staff, totaling 100 rushing yards and 279 yards and two touchdowns in the air, both courtesy of a familiar face, Joe Flacco. Yeboah entered New York’s preseason finals seemingly without much of a chance of making the 53-man roster after a disappointing summer. That all changed against the Eagles, as undrafted free agent Ole Miss had two touchdown passes, including Morgan’s last-second lift to tie the game when time expired in the fourth quarter. Week 3 was Yeboah’s only solid performance of the preseason, but it might have been enough for him to make the squad given Gang Green’s tight weekend depth graph.

Friday night was a reminder that some young New York players still have a lot of work to do before they are finished products. Jamien Sherwood’s mistake at the point of attack against Boston Scott in the first quarter cost the Jets a touchdown. These are the kinds of mistakes to be expected from Sherwood – and other New York rookies – throughout 2021. It’s part of the process of developing a very young group of players.

Johnson started with Robert Saleh choosing not to play Zach Wilson and with Mike White’s ribs healing. The 35-year-old has impressed with his lone pre-season action, but that probably won’t be enough to improve his position on New York’s quarterback depth chart – even though he could in fact be the second-best passer. of the team at this point. Johnson has proven against the Eagles that he can still play. If the Jets don’t keep him, he’ll have a chance to catch up elsewhere.

All the goodwill Isaiah Dunn spent the spring accumulating has all but vanished. The undrafted free agent from Oregon state battled the Packers last Saturday and appeared to be lost to the Eagles. The Jets aren’t at all deep at the cornerback, but Lamar Jackson was already breathing down Dunn’s neck before Friday night. There is now a chance that he will be shown the door on reduction day.

He hasn’t garnered much attention this summer, but Dan Feeney hasn’t been good since signing with the Jets. His struggles were fully on display against the Eagles, as he was beaten in the trenches countless times throughout the game. Feeney is likely to retain his place in the 53-man roster, but New York has to consider whether it can really deliver much-needed quality depth once the regular season begins.
