NEW YORK (AP) – A new poll released by the Public Affairs Center's (NORC) Associated Press Center for Public Relations Research (NORC) disapproves of President Donald Trump's overall performance in supporting behavior. of the president in the management of the US economy. but gives it weak marks on other major problems.

The numbers may be ugly for a first term president who is due to be re-elected in 14 months, but they are remarkably consistent. Trump's approval rating has never dropped below 32% or exceeded 42% in AP-NORC polls since taking office.
No other president has stayed in such a narrow band. Since Gallup began measuring presidential approval, Trump is the only president whose mark has never exceeded 50%. Trump's poor ratings in the AP-NORC poll cover several key issues: immigration, health care, foreign policy and firearms. The new survey was conducted soon after consecutive mass shots in Texas and Ohio left dozens of dead and new calls from Americans asking for answers from their elected representatives. Trump has pledged to take immediate action immediately after the attacks, but has since decided to ask if it was necessary to strengthen the background checks of people seeking to buy firearms.
"He does everything politically expedient. It's awful, "said Robert Saunders, 60, a retired New Jersey police officer who was not registered with any major political party and vowed not to vote for Trump in 2020.
According to the survey, 36% approve of Trump's policy on firearms, while 61% disapprove, figures that reflect its wider popularity rating.
In response to the shooting, Trump said he would pursue his political options with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and that he would like to see "a very significant background check". The independents also remain very low on Trump, with about two-thirds disapproving of his performance.
Significantly, more Americans approve Trump's treatment of the economy, although even on this issue he remains slightly underwater: 46% approve and 51% disapprove of his performance.
Trump's current economic score represents a 5 percentage point drop from the same period last year, but for a president who has struggled to win the majority of US voters, the economy represents a relative strength .
Even some Democrats approve: only 5% of Democrats approve its overall performance, but 16% approve of its management of the economy. Independents are closely divided – 44% approve and 47% disapprove – while 86% of Republicans approve of its economic leadership.
"He's a bit of a bully, but I've seen an improvement," said Mandi Mitchell, a 38-year-old registered Democrat from North Carolina. "Our unemployment rate has definitely dropped."
Mitchell, who is preparing her doctorate, said she did not vote for Trump in 2016, but perhaps in 2020.
"I'm not going to be too tough on him," she said. "I just think he's not addressing America properly."
Amid the usual sources of distraction from the president's social media, the Trump team has been striving to highlight the rise in retail sales and the strong labor market, with its unemployment rate of 3.7 % as a source of vigor. The US economy, however, appears to have vulnerabilities after more than 10 years of growth. Factory production fell and consumer confidence weakened as Trump stepped up its trade struggle with China.
Trump shook the stock and bond markets this month when he announced his intention to tax 10 percent of Chinese imports for $ 300 billion. The market reaction signaled a recession and led Trump to delay some of the tariffs that were due to start in September, although many others remain.
"The economy is doing well, but it is doing a horrible job for the country," said 67-year-old John Sollenberger of Philadelphia.
He said he left the Republican Party after the rise of Trump and is now a registered freelancer.
"For me, it's the vitriol that comes out of it," explained Sollenberger. "He's obviously racist. He is anti-immigrant. It foments discontent with so many people, no matter what the economy really does. "
Those who remain in the Republican party do not share the negative assessment.
Greg Traylor, a 53-year-old businessman from North Canton, Ohio, admitted that Trump was "tough to cook," but praised his work on immigration and his support for Israel. On the economic front, Traylor praised Trump's hard-line attitude towards China, while acknowledging that it could cause short-term suffering.
"He has steel bullets," Traylor said.

The AP-NORC survey of 1,058 adults was conducted from August 15 to 19 with a sample of the NORC-based AmeriSpeak Probability Panel, designed to be representative of the US population.
