If you are planning to grill grilled meat this Memorial Day weekend, you may want to re-check your meat products before getting a very festive surprise.

The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a recall notice for more than 62,000 pounds of raw beef due to concerns about E. coli.

Here are some things to keep in mind when checking your labels:

  • The meat was packaged at the Aurora Packing Company, Inc. in North Aurora, Illinois on April 19, but was shipped nationwide for distribution.
  • According to the USDA announcement, the recalled products bear the EST establishment number. 788 "inside the USDA inspection mark. The recall includes more than 40 products, most of which are steak cuts, such as ribeyes, as well as ribs and breasts.
  • Here is a complete list.

The USDA also points out that people sometimes prefer to freeze pieces of meat for later use. Therefore, if you have recently recovered beef from your reserve freezer, you may want to check it too.

The possible E. coli contamination was discovered after random sampling and the USDA states that no case of disease related to this booster has been reported.
