65,000 power outages reported in northern New York State

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – More than 65,000 power outages have been reported in upstate New York after fierce winds continued to shake the area all night.

Syracuse.com reports that 5,000 public service workers have been mobilized in the north of the state.

According to WGRZ in Buffalo, lake-effect snow combined with gusting winds at 60 mph could significantly reduce visibility in some areas on Monday morning.

Hundreds of schools have had cancellations or delays.

The wind has also wreaked havoc in the metropolitan area of ​​New York.

On Sunday, thousands of people lost power in the north of the state. In Buffalo, two people were injured by the fall of lampposts.

An 86 mph gust was recorded Sunday on Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks. There were gusts of 74 mph at the Niagara Falls Airport and 69 mph at the Buffalo Airport.
