A 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked southern California late Friday night, just one day after the region was hit by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake.

The earthquake at 8:20 pm PDT was centered 11 miles from Ridgecrest, a desert town in Mojave located 150 miles from Los Angeles. The earthquake blew stones on parts of a highway, broke gas pipes and cut electricity to the city of Trona and parts of Ridgecrest, which were damaged, as well as as fires and many injuries.
