Rear window

If you’ve never seen Rear window there are two things you need to know: 1. It’s a freezing classic and one of the best movies ever made, and 2. It’s extremely entertaining. If your notion of “classic film” is boring black and white drama, Rear window should put you all right. This is Alfred hitchcock creating pleasure of the highest quality, telling the story of a professional photographer (James stewart) lying with a broken leg who decides to spend his time using binoculars to snoop around his neighbors in the building next door. One night he witnesses what he believes to be murder, and the movie picks up from there. Hitchcock’s framing is revolutionary, as the camera sees what our hero sees, and we find ourselves becoming the voyeur. What’s so remarkable is how tense and thrilling the action is, even though we’re watching it from an entire building. This movie is a bright and exciting good time and is the perfect “Friday Date Night” movie.

If you are wondering, “Why don’t they make movies like the Brendan Fraser The Mummy more? ”I strongly suggest looking Zorro’s mask. This 1998 action-adventure film is perfectly itchy because Casino Royale director Martin campbell brings the TV character Zorro to the big screen in a captivating way. The film is a bit of a transfer because Anthony hopkins plays an aging and exiled Zorro who trains a young bandit to take his place and save his daughter from an evil Don. The story is set in the 1800s and following the Mexican War of Independence, so there is also a bit Pirates of the Caribbean atmosphere to the whole. But it’s packed with practical effects, humor and romance.
Extraterrestrial

Ridley scottThe 1979 feature film takes place far into the future in deep space and follows the crew of a commercial space tug who are tasked with investigating a distress signal, only to come into contact with a deadly alien plaguing their ship. Horror is dark in this movie, and Sigourney weaver rises as the play’s unlikely hero as the first half of the story has her sort of become a secondary background character. Decades later, this one is still terrifying.
Crimson Tide

If you’re in the mood for a tense, content action thriller, take a look Crimson Tide. The 1995 film originated in Top Gun and Man on fire director Tony Scott and takes place on an American nuclear submarine where a new CEO (Denzel Washington) and the ship’s captain (Gene Hackman) face conflicting interpretations of an order to launch their missiles. Nuclear fallout is in play and the tension comes from the characters more than the explosions, which makes for a thrilling experience. You will also notice the uncredited rewrites of Quentin Tarantino in much of the dialogue.
Only lovers will stay alive

If you like your vampire movies with a heavy side of existential terror, 2013’s Only lovers will stay alive maybe in your alley. The story follows a couple of vampires (Tilda swinton and Tom hiddleston) who have been married for centuries and now live in separate places – Adam in Detroit and Eve in Tangier. Separately, they struggle with their own boring lives – Adam is a famous musician but has retired, while Eve finds herself traveling to comfort Adam. It’s a chatty, patient drama dripping with dread, and the casting of Hiddleston and Swinton as a pair of cranky vampires is perfect.
Hellboy

While Guillermo del Torothe first stab at Hellboy isn’t as crisp as its sequel, the 2004 film remains an entertaining and distinctly GDT superhero game. Ron Perlman plays a demon who now works for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense alongside other equally strange creatures, who are suddenly tasked with fighting when the Russian mystic Grigory Rasputin is resurrected. This one is really colorful and a lot of fun, as del Toro clearly likes to put his own spin on the formula for the comic book movie.
The war of tomorrow
