Maybe your phone is only dirty, lucky. Tap or click here to follow the 5 steps to clean your phone properly..

You could blame the aging circuits of the phone, but the problem is usually a lot simpler than that. Apps, security issues and battery usage can have a profound impact on your phone and a bit of maintenance can go a long way.

1. Clean house

You probably have application pages and only use a handful of them. Purge time.

On your iPhone, launch the Settings app, tap General, Storage, scroll to and select the app you want to delete. Tap Delete app, and then tap Delete again to confirm that you want to delete the app.

To remove apps from Android, go to Settings, scroll down and tap Apps. A list of applications on your phone will appear. Select the application you want to delete and tap Uninstall. Be sure to return to your viewing window to remove the widget. If all else fails, Settings is the starting point for deleting applications. (Note that the steps in this article are for Samsung phones, and the exact steps may be different.)

Apps are just one of the ways advertisers can follow you on your smartphone. Watch this quick video to learn how to stop them.

2. Do not believe the hype

Contrary to what most people believe, letting applications run in the background is not bad for androids. If you open and close applications constantly, you may compromise the performance and battery life of your phone.

IPhone apps, on the other hand, do not really work in the background. If you perform multiple tasks at once, the application that you stopped using will hang itself, keeping its data in memory but not using any resources.

Closing and reopening apps will drain your battery in the long run on an iPhone. If you want to use the application refresh in the background, go to Settings, General, Application Background Refresh and enable it.

3. More guilty of the discharged battery

Your settings can siphon battery life. Whether you have an iPhone or Android, turn off Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi when you're not using them. If you are in a place without Wi-Fi, use Airplane mode. Your phone will stop searching for a signal that actually discharges the battery. Another trick is to reduce the brightness of your screen.

To reduce the brightness of your iPhone, open the Settings app, and then tap Display and Brightness. To turn off GPS on your iPhone, tap Settings, Privacy, Location Services, and slide the slider to Off. To turn off Bluetooth, open the Settings app, scroll down, tap Bluetooth, and then slide the slider to Off.

To turn off Wi-Fi, launch Settings, tap Wi-Fi, and slide the switch to Off. There is also a simple way on the iPhone to adjust the brightness of your screen or turn off your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi by accessing the convenient Control Center of the phone. You can see there icons for the brightness of the screen, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

On your Android, open Settings, tap Display, and you can turn on Auto Brightness or use the slider to manually adjust the brightness. To turn off Wi-Fi, go to Settings, tap Connect, find Wi-Fi, and then slide the switch to Off. On the same page, you can also disable your Bluetooth and GPS.

If your Android supports this feature, you can go to your home screen and swipe down to display the status bar. From there, you can turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS simply by pressing the appropriate icons. You can also adjust the brightness of your screen.

4. Stay in step with your time

When an update of your phone is installed, install it. Decision makers continually solve performance and security issues.

On an iPhone, back up files you do not want to lose, such as photos and videos. Then tap Settings on your Home screen, then tap General, Software Update, Download and Install, enter the code if prompted, tap Accept Terms and Accept again to confirm.

Be aware that apps are not updated during an update of the operating system. You will have to go to each application to see if any updates are available.

On Android, tap About Phone, and then tap Software Info. This step will tell you if you have the latest operating system. If you do not have the latest version, tap Settings, Software Updates, and Download Updates.

5. Load or not?

For iPhones and Androids, keep your phone charged between 40% and 80%. You want to restart your phone from time to time to give it a new lease of life. And never let the battery overheat.

Now, it is important. If you need to replace your charging cable, make sure it comes from the original manufacturer or a certified brand. Generic chargers can save you a few dollars, but they can also be extremely dangerous. Tap or click here to see if your charger may possibly cause a fire.

6. Stay alert to security

Smartphones can receive viruses and malware. Here, an iPhone surpasses Android. Apple does not give its source code to developers and consumers can not change it easily by themselves. This prevents hackers.

Androids use open source code that application developers can use, and hackers can abuse it. If you have an Android and think you're infected with a virus, look for signs such as pop-up ads, a battery that runs out too quickly, peaks in the use of your data and unexpected applications appear on your phone.

To get rid of a bad Android app, put your phone in safe mode. This step disables third-party applications. The method for doing this may vary depending on your phone, but for most users, hold down the Power key, then press and hold Power. Press OK when prompted to restart in safe mode.

To remove the offending application, open Settings, tap Apps, browse your list of apps and tap Uninstall. You can then restart your phone to exit safe mode.

7. erase things

Delete the browser cache you are using. On the iPhone, press Settings, locate your browser and press Clear history and data from the website.

To clear the cache of third-party apps, tap Settings, General, iPhone Storage and look in your apps. There may be a button to reset the cache when you restart the application.

On Android, you can delete files by tapping Settings, Storage, Free Space, choose a file to delete, and check the empty box to the right. Then, press Release up at the bottom of the screen.
