PHOENIX – A 70 year old woman The victim died in the Grand Canyon's South Rim Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Grand Canyon National Park rangers have received reports of someone needing help near Pipe Creek Vista shortly after 1 pm, park officials said.

The woman fell off the edge before the start of relief operations.

A rescue crew used a helicopter from the park to find the woman's body, about 200 feet below the edge, the park said.

A team of about 15 people helped recover the body later on Tuesday afternoon, park officials said in a statement.

The woman's name had not been released Tuesday night, pending a notification to the family.

The incident was the last of a series of deaths in the canyon in recent weeks.

On April 3, the park rangers were informed that a man had fallen on the edge of the canyon and had then found the body of the 67-year-old man about 400 feet under the ledge.

At the end of March, a 50-year-old Hong Kong tourist fell into the canyon while he was attempting to take pictures at Grand Canyon West, an area located in the Hualapai Indian Reserve, to the west of National Park. This fall occurred at Eagle Point, an area near the Skywalk attraction.

On March 26, a body identified as a possible foreign visitor was found in a forested area south of the Grand Canyon village, away from the edge, reported the Associated Press. The cause of death was the subject of an investigation, said park spokeswoman Vanessa Ceja-Cervantes earlier this month.

Officials took advantage of Tuesday's incident to remind visitors to stay on designated trails and walkways and stay away from the edge of the board.
