Harvey Joseph Fountain, of Pineville, was arrested on April 9, a few days after detectives began investigating a complaint of sexual crimes against minors, said the sheriff's office of Rapids parish.

"The crimes allegedly began in the early 1970s and continued until the early 1980s," the sheriff's office said in a press release.

The fountain was initially held on 50 counts of first degree rape. But on Friday, the detectives identified other alleged victims while Fountain was in jail, and the authorities again arrested him for another 50 counts of first-degree rape.

He was detained on Tuesday morning at the Rapides Parish Detention Center, with a $ 1 million bail, the county clerk's office announced.

The fountain had not been formally charged Tuesday morning, said the clerk's office. A grand jury should review the case and decide whether, and on what counts, to charge him, said the sheriff's office at CNN's subsidiary, KALB.

It was not clear right away if Fountain had a lawyer.

The investigation "is still ongoing and further arrests are possible," the sheriff's office said in a press release.
