A large pile of dead coyotes was discovered behind a subdivision in a North Carolina town, and a wildlife officer thinks they were taken to a different place after a hunt.

Sampson Parker, head of law enforcement on wildlife protection in North Carolina, said Monday that 73 carcasses were piled up in heaps on the ground near a ditch leading to a stream in Charlotte. Two residents found them last Thursday on the site of a former wastewater treatment plant. The city bought the property and locked it.

Workers from Mecklenburg County claim that there is no evidence that the carcasses had an impact on the water.

Parker says that a survey shows that someone brought the coyotes from a big hunt. He says the coyotes should have been taken to a landfill.

The story has been reported for the first time by WBTV.
