The last bloody week of gunfire in New York has seen 76 people injured, 14 of them murdered – with nearly two and a half times more shootings than the same week last year, according to police sources.

As of 7 a.m. the previous week saw 62 separate shootings – a dramatic increase from 26 the same week last year, according to sources.

Among the 76 injured in the latest wave of gunfire, there were 14 murders – again more than the 10 for the same period in 2019, according to the sources.

The latest deaths include a man who was shot just after 2 a.m. at the entrance to Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NYPD sources said.

Photos showed a distraught woman comforting a man dressed in white who appeared to have collapsed in pain as others soon gathered around a body carried in a stretcher.

It continued a particularly bloody weekend which had already seen at least 11 people gunned down overnight from Friday to Saturday morning, with four dead – including 28-year-old city policeman John Jeff, who was shot dead during ‘a party in Queens.

The alarming surge earlier this month has already seen more shootings this year than all of 2019 – five months from the end.

As officials argue over the cause, frightened New Yorkers have even started buying bulletproof vests in record numbers.
