The Chicago Bears would be better served to resolve these quarterback issues than trading to Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Carson Wentz is expected to be traded soon. The Chicago Bears are one of the potential landing spots the former No.2 pick could land. While the Bears may be a decent landing point for him based on cost, there are at least eight options GM Ryan Pace should consider before negotiating for Wentz.

8 best quarterback options for the Bears over Carson Wentz

Marcus Mariota

QB Las Vegas Raiders

He was a free agency target in the last offseason

It may not be the quarterback panacea the Bears are looking for, but they could get better business value for Marcus Mariota of the Las Vegas Raiders. Like Wentz and Mitchell Trubisky, Mariota was a former No. 2 pick in her NFL Draft. While it didn’t work out for him with the Tennessee Titans in the end, there’s reason to believe he may soon be a quality starter in the NFL.

It can be difficult for the Raiders to let go because head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock like him very much. However, Mariota currently holds a clipboard backing up Derek Carr. In short, Mariota is consumable at the right price. Assuming he stays healthy, maybe Mariota could exploit what made him a Heisman Trophy winner in Oregon.

Jimmy Garoppolo

QB San Francisco 49ers

Illinois native has Super Bowl experience

While the Eagles fell out of favor with Wentz, it looks like it’s the same sort of thing with Jimmy Garoppolo on the San Francisco 49ers. While health and decision-making limited his overall success in the league, Garoppolo quarterbacked San Francisco at Super Bowl 54 a season ago. He grew up in Rolling Meadows, IL before playing in Eastern Illinois.

Trading for Garoppolo would be like getting Trubisky in his prime, which Bears fans may not be very interested in. However, Garoppolo played his best ball in the harsh Nordic climates. If he succeeded as the Bears quarterback, he would be a larger than life personality in Windy City. It’s as fast as Wentz, but probably won’t be as expensive.
