The Texas Republican Party website was hacked on Saturday by a group claiming to be protesting the state’s new abortion law, according to reports.

Among those who reacted to the news was Jon Cooper, former New York financial adviser to President Biden and former President Barack Obama.

“It made my day,” Cooper wrote on Twitter on Saturday, as the nation celebrated 20 years of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Cooper served as National Finance Chairman of Draft Biden 2016, Long Island Campaign Chairman for Obama, and Majority Leader in the Suffolk County Legislature in New York City.

Last month, Cooper tweeted a photoshoped mashup of actual protesters of the vaccine mandate and the child character from the 1999 film “The Sixth Sense” and added his comment: “I see people who are going to die soon.”

A clip of Rick Astley, an obscene photograph and a statement claiming Republicans across the state were trying to suppress women’s rights was added to the Texas GOP site for several hours on Saturday, Texas Public Radio reported.

“Texas: Speaking Up for Women to Promote Theocratic Erosion of Church-State Barriers,” the message read, according to the outlet.

The group that carried out the hack identified itself as “anonymous” with a banner at the top of the page, according to the report.

Hearing scheduled for Monday

Texas Senate Bill 8, which many supporters refer to as the “heartbeat bill,” came into effect on September 1 after being passed by the state’s GOP-led legislature and promulgated by Republican Governor Greg Abbott. The United States Supreme Court voted 5-4 not to block the law, but on September 3, a Texas judge issued a temporary restraining order protecting state abortion clinics from authorized prosecution by the new law. A hearing on this case is scheduled for Monday.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Texas on Thursday, claiming the state’s new law is unconstitutional.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and other Republicans have pledged to defend the new law.

“Biden should focus on solving the border crisis, Afghanistan, the economy and countless other disasters instead of interfering with the sovereign rights of states,” Paxton wrote on Twitter. “I will use all available resources to fight for my life.”

Liberals, including Democratic lawmakers and celebrities, have spoken out against the Texas law and some companies have also spoken out against it, including rideshare providers Lyft and Uber, who have pledged to help all drivers sued because of the law. .
