First-year striker Emmitt Williams of the LSU has declared for the NBA Draft, he announced via Instagram Thursday afternoon, April 11.
"I am grateful that LSU has had the opportunity to play collegiate basketball," Williams wrote in his message. "Being at LSU has allowed me to grow and develop on and off the court. … I will continue to work hard and be proud of my family, my teammates and my coaches. "
Williams averaged seven points per game, with a new LSU rookie record in goal percentage: 61.4%. He played in 34 games, starting in eight of them, averaging 19.8 minutes per game. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds per game and 22 blocks on the season.
Williams, a native of Fort Myers, Florida, is the fifth LSU player to run for the NBA draft. Tremont Waters, Naz Reid, Skylar Mays and Javonte Smart have already announced their intention to test at least the waters of the NBA.
Players can have certified agents guide them through the process. Williams did not say in his message that he had hired an agent as did Waters and Reid.
The deadline to submit to the NBA Draft and be represented by an agent is 11 April at 23:59. AND. These agents must be NBPA certified. Players returning to college must terminate their agency contract with agents before registering for the next academic session.
Players may only accept transportation, lodging and meal benefits related to meeting with their agent or training sessions with NBA teams. Players must not reimburse these fees if they decide to return to school. The NBA supports player expenses to participate in the NBA Combine Scouting or the G-League Elite Camp. The respective teams are authorized to cover expenses resulting from private training.
This year's NBA project will take place on Thursday, June 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
