Trump says 5G will boost US farms, manufacturing and health care companies

President Trump and FCC President Ajit Pai announced Friday the administration's initiative to roll out a 5G network across the country.

"The 5G race is on the way and America has to win," Trump said from the Roosevelt Hall of the White House. "This is a race in which our big companies are participating now."

Trump said a secure 5G network would transform the way everyone communicates and create new and amazing opportunities in America.

"This will make US farms more productive, US manufacturing more competitive, and US health care better and more accessible," he said.

The 5G is the fifth generation mobile cellular broadband that will eventually replace 4G LTE to provide faster and more reliable service with lower latency.

"The 5G will be 100 times faster than today's 4G cellular networks," said Trump.

The president encourages US companies to lead the world in 5G innovations and provide high-speed Internet access to rural areas without a broadband connection.
