Man accused of throwing a boy, 5 years old, from the balcony of the Mall of America, accused of attempted murder

A Minnesota man accused of throwing a 5-year-old boy from the balcony of a third floor to the Mall of America last week told police he "was looking for someone to to kill, "said a prosecutor in a criminal complaint filed Monday.

Emmanuel Aranda, 24, was charged on Monday with attempted first degree murder with premeditation in the Friday morning incident. The boy, who fell nearly 20 meters, remained in a hospital in Minneapolis with trauma to the head and several fractures.

According to the court documents, the mother of the victim stated that she, a friend, her son and her child were in front of the Rainforest Cafe when Aranda approached them very close to their group. The mother of the victim said that she had asked Aranda if they were bothering him and should move. At that time, the suspect took the child without warning and threw him off the balcony.

The police surprised Aranda on a light rail at the mall pending his departure. They confessed to throwing the child off the balcony and said that he had come to the mall a day earlier to try to kill someone, but it did not work. Aranda had initially announced his intention to kill an adult before choosing the child, the complaint said.

Aranda told the police that he had been going to the mall for several years and had tried several times to talk to women, but that he had been rejected, investigators said. The complaint added that the rejection had pushed him to take on himself and to be aggressive.

Aranda has already been convicted of assaulting the mall twice in 2015, including one in which he dumped a glass of water and a glass of tea on a woman who refused to buy him anything. Aranda at one point was banned from the mall.

Court records show that Aranda was ordered to undergo a psychological assessment or treatment after the first assaults in shopping centers.

A GoFundMe set up for the victim, identified only as Landen, had collected nearly $ 600,000 Monday afternoon. The creator of the page, Noah Hanneman, said Sunday that the boy slept "in a peaceful sleep and continues to fight courageously".
