As players returned to VMAC on Monday for the start of the Seahawks' off-season training program, several players signed restricted or exclusive rights-restricted bidders on Monday.
Tackle George Fant and defensive back Quinton Jefferson, both restricted free agents, signed after receiving qualifying bids before the start of the league new year in March. Fant, who had joined the team as a free agent in 2016, was selected in the second round, while Jefferson, a fifth round pick, was an original call for bids.
Fant, who has returned from a knee injury that cost him the entire 2017 season, took on a new role in 2018 as a big straight / sixth line player, frequently playing a third or more of the Seattle's offensive shots in any match, while helping the way forward for the Seahawks' hasty attack in the NFL. He also caught a pass for 9 yards. Jefferson started 12 defensive games, recording 26 tackles, 3.0 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, two defended passes and one cleared recovery.
The Seahawks also signed nine of their exclusive rights-free agents: linebacker Austin Calitro, linebacker Emmanuel Ellerbee, center Joey Hunt, defensive wing Branden Jackson, safety Shalom Luani, half JD McKissic, long snapper Tyler Ott, cornerback Kalan Reed and guard Jordan Simmons.
In addition, linebacker Emmanuel Beal, who was dismissed Friday in Seattle, authorized the waivers and is now a free agent. Kicker Sam Ficken, who was also up on Friday, was claimed by the Green Bay Packers.
