Georgia Engel, who has portrayed the charming and innocent Georgette on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and accumulated a series of other television and theater credits, has passed away. She was 70 years old.

Engel died Friday in Princeton, New Jersey, said his friend and executor, John Quilty. The cause of death was unknown because she was a Christian scientist and had not consulted a doctor, Quilty said Monday.

Engel was best known for her role as Georgette in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, whose character was unlikely to marry Ted Baxter, the pompous presenter, played by Ted Knight.

Engel also had recurring roles in "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Hot in Cleveland". She has been nominated five times at the Emmy Awards, twice for the show of the late Moore and three for "Everybody Loves Raymond".
