PHILADELPHIA – Someone had to win.
And that's one that emerged from the evening of Monday night was the Mets, who took a lead in the 11th inning without being able to waste them, using an error from Rhys Hoskins on Michael Conforto's pitch to mark the decisive goal in a 7-6 win over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
The shot from Conforto scored Juan Lagares, who opened the round with a field single against Pat Neshek.
Edwin Diaz finished in 11th place to save, finishing the marathon in 4 hours and 29 minutes.
Jeurys Familia has folded to eighth place, giving the Mets their third lead of the match. The dive stop of Jeff McNeil to start a 5-4-3 double game seemed to have prepared Familia to skate, but the disaster ensued. Familia marched on the next two batters to charge the bases before Robert Gsellman came in and led Jean Segura on four throws to force the run by leveling 6-6.

The name of Seth Lugo has been presented as a possible substitute for the beleaguered Vargas, but the right-hander tonight has emphasized its value to the market. Lugo fired two scoreless innings, relieving, giving Familia the lead in the eighth. But the first single of Odubel Herrera and the approach of Cesar Hernandez put Familia in immediate danger before Maikel Franco is found in the double game.
Syndergaard has somehow survived five innings, allowing nine hits and three walks with nine strikeouts on 102 shots. The right-hander had several runners on base in three of the five innings that he pitched, but he ran away 5-5.

Franco hammered a high slider in the fourth goal for a two-point homer who tied at 5-5 after Syndergaard was given the lead in the previous half-run. Hernandez stood out before Franco hit a rocket in the left seat.
Nola, who finished third in the NL Young Cy Young Award last year, behind Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, had a tough third outing. Nola lasted only four innings and allowed five earned runs in seven hits and three goals and saw his points total increase to 7.45.
The Mets crushed Nola in third place. In single singles consecutive Comforto, Wilson Ramos and McNeil, scored three points. Pete Alonso's march began the rally.
Syndergaard escaped trouble in the first game when Ramos eliminated Hoskins who was trying to steal the second goal to end the inning. Segura, who stole the second goal earlier in the inning, was left to third base.
