The latest update to Apple's macOS software may have made the screen of your 2018 MacBook Air brighter. Those who install the update eventually might be pleasantly surprised to find that the Retina display on their laptop is suddenly 100 times brighter than it was before, for a new total brightness of 400 nits.
The brightness change has been confirmed by users on Reddit and MacRumeurs; Apple's recent MacOS 10.14.4 update, released on March 25, "corrects the default screen brightness" of the latest MacBook Air models. Apple has also updated the technical specifications page of the new MacBook Air to note that the Retina display of the notebook has a maximum brightness of 400 nits, compared to about 300 nits compared to publications and reviews techniques noted in their systems before the macOS update in late March.
Brightness was one of the biggest issues we had with Air's new Retina display when we reviewed it last fall. Hopefully the new macOS update will solve this problem.
