The Tampa Bay Rays have placed Blake Snell's ace on the injured list for 10 days with a broken toe, the team said Tuesday.
Snell, the recipient of the AL Cy Young Award, had a fracture at the fourth foot of the right foot when he stepped out of the shower and then attempted to move a large granite object.
"Really stupid," Snell told reporters on Tuesday. "It's like a set of three pieces and that pole going up like two and a half feet." I went to move it, I lifted it and it was not stuck to the pole and post it's crushed. "
The move is retroactive to Sunday and Snell will miss only one departure.
Snell, 26, is 2-1 with an average of 2.16 in four starts this season. The southpaw has 36 strikeouts in 25 innings.
To occupy this place, the Rays named Emilio Pagan of Triple-A Durham.
Associated Press contributed to this report.
