16h15: The director would miss "at least" a month of action, director Aaron Boone told the press (Twitter link via Erik Boland of Newsday).

9:47: The Yankees have selected the contract of first-baseman Mike Ford, by a club announcement. First base player Greg Bird goes to the injured list with a tear in the left plantar fascia, with a 40-man spot created by the changing shift player Jacoby Ellsbury at the 60-day IL. Talkin 'Yanks' Jimmy O'Brien got the news from the Ford promotion this morning (Twitter link).

It's a harder news for Bird, who was already struggling in the penalty area. The 26-year-old has already suffered a multitude of injuries during his career. Now he has a new, potentially delicate disease to overcome. The details of his planned schedule are not yet clear, but Bird will surely require a long stretch on the IL. Tears in the plantar fascia may require up to a month of walking boots even before the real rehabilitation work begins.

Ford is also a young bander who is 26 years old and left-handed. When Bird debuted with the Yanks in 2015, however, Ford was working on High-A level problems.

There have been ups and downs since, with both power and patience at the rendezvous. In 2017, out of 532 senior miner appearances, Ford posted a .270 / .404 / .471 slash with twenty home runs and a mix of 94 walks and 72 strikeouts. Last year, the Princeton product sank to a .760 OPS at the highest level of miners.

Since the early 2000s, Ford is firmly committed to risk taking. After a tee shot at the spring camp, he came out of the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre gates. In 45 games, Ford has a .410 / .467 / .897 strike line with five long balls and four lanes with seven strikeouts.
