Steven Matz, the Mets have their first round of horrors against the Phillies

Only the Mets could steal the spotlight from a day filled with Yankee injury problems.

Steven Matz made a start of horror in Tuesday's game against the Phillies, while roller coaster Mets scored eight points, all but two, without scoring a single goal. The line, supplemented by a pair of errors by Amed Rosario, pushed the Matz EAR from 1.65 to 4.96.

Manager Mickey Callaway put Matz out of misery after 31 shots, replacing him with reliever Drew Gagnon, but not before the starter became the Mets' second thrower to give eight points in one inning: Bobby Jones lashed out. did against the Braves in September 1997.

To make matters worse, Brandon Nimmo left the game at about the same time as Matz, due to a right shoulder injury. Nimmo's status is unclear at the moment.

The Mets barely escaped the heat with a 10-0 loss and four total errors, a feat they last played on April 27, 2012 against the Rockies. The Mets managed to score the most points in a heat set by the Detroit Wolverines in 1883. The modern record is 17, a dubious mark recorded by the Tigers in 1953.
