A white supremacist who crushed and killed a young black man in Oregon two years ago was sentenced Tuesday to life imprisonment, with no possibility of parole for 28 years.

Russell Courtier's conviction comes after a jury said in March that 40-year-old Courtier had been convicted of murder, hit and run and second-degree bullying in the death of Larnell Bruce, 19 years, reported The Oregonian / OregonLive.

Broker and Colleen Hunt were in a jeep driven by Broker in August 2016 when the latter encouraged him to travel to Bruce after the two fights in front of a convenience store in Gresham, a suburb of Portland, authorities said.

Prosecutors argued that Broker was motivated by his white supremacist beliefs, claiming that he belonged to the Kindred European prison gang and wore the gang logo on his baseball cap and that he was wearing a tattoo on the leg when he met Bruce.

The surveillance video showed Bruce standing in front of the store when Broker arrived and parked. A fight broke out, but we do not know how it started, said prosecutor David Hannon.

The video then captured Bruce running down a street and a sidewalk to get away from Broker, who chased Bruce into the jeep and hit him. Bruce died several days later.

Hannon called Broker "violent and" shameless "for his views on white supremacy.

Bruce's mother, Christina Miles, told Broker in court that "you have allowed the devil to go astray and take life from such a handsome young mind".

Larnell Bruce Sr., the victim's father, stated that he hoped that Broker would spend time in prison wondering if he wanted his own 8-year-old son to grow up in the midst of supremacists. white.

"This ideology you have is not good for anyone," said Bruce.

Broker was torn in court, but did not speak during sentencing, as his lawyers said he advised against it. He is already serving a four-year jail sentence for his role in a 2015 bar attack.

Hunt pled guilty to manslaughter, agreed to accept a 10-year sentence and was to be sentenced on Tuesday afternoon.
