Andrea died Saturday, April 13, after falling from a cliff in Arkansas, during a school trip in environmental science with friends from Briar Cliff University. from Sioux City, Iowa, announced his mother.
Andrea fell 30 meters from Hawksbill Crag, a rock formation near Jasper about 150 km northwest of Little Rock. She had stepped on a rock to get her picture taken, and once the picture was taken, she took a step back, rolled her ankle – which was weak playing volleyball and basketball – and Momentum made him fall from the top of the cliff, said Tamera Andrea's friends at the scene told him. She said that media reports that Andrea dropped by posing for a photo or adjusting a backpack are false.
People on the scene went downstairs to help Andrea, but she died in shock, said Glenn Wheeler, Sheriff of Newton County. The first responders found Andrea's body down the cliff and bringing it into a litter box.
Wheeler says that the rock, located in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest is a popular hiking destination and one of the most photographed natural areas in Arkansas. He added that people died as a result of a fall every two years. Also known as Whitaker Point, the rocky peak derives its name from the fact that it looks like a hawk's beak.
Andrea has won five letters in volleyball and basketball at Hot Springs High School, according to her biography on the website of her university team.
She attended Briar Cliff University, a Catholic liberal arts school, where she earned a volleyball and symphony choir scholarship, Tamera said. Andrea, a junior, specialized in biology and environmental science and recently had her minor petition in world studies approved. During the school year she worked at the library and carried out summer internships.
Andrea was a naturalist trainee at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in Sioux City, studied breast cancer at Sanford Health and was planning to study aquatic ecology at Central Michigan University this summer, Tamera said. She was preparing to work as an environmental engineer or in a career that would "make a difference to the environment".
"She lived the values of BCU in everything she did in class at court and wherever she went," writes the school on Facebook. Andrea has also "embodied the values of BCU in everything she has done, including her compassion for all, her love for the environment and her openness to everyone she has met," said BCU in a statement Press.
Her daughter was very religious and found no conflict between biblical creation and science, Tamera said. Bible verses, Job 12: 8, on learning the earth and fish, and 1 John 4: 4 were tattooed around the ankles.
Andrea's middle name is Eileen, and the two names together mean "brave light," Tamera said. "Everyone speaks of this light" in it, whether they know the meaning of its names or not. "She had absolutely that fire and that light that permeated everything."
Andrea's immediate family includes his mother, Tamera, his father, Mark and his younger brother, Matthew. His obituary indicates that his ashes will be scattered to different places and that a memorial will be erected at Briar Cliff University.
