The 1991 GMC Syclone is one of the coolest trucks ever built. Equipped with a turbocharged V-6 of 280 horses, it posted a score of 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds, faster than a Ferrari of the same year. This remains a legend in the world of capable utilities. Unfortunately, GMC has never built tracking of the Syclone (or Typhoon SUV that it spawned).

Now, vehicles specializing in vehicle engineering, the same people behind this 1000 HP HP Yenko Corvette Sport, want to bring back the Syclone, sort of. The team has just unveiled a new tuning package for the 2019 GMC Canyon to boost its power and give a boost to your nostalgia. Starting with a 2 or 4 wheel drive extended cab truck, the naturally aspirated 3.6 liter, 308 horsepower V-6 features a 455 horsepower supercharged engine. The brakes are upgraded with six-piston units at the front measuring 13.6 inches in diameter. A sports suspension set lowers the truck two inches in front and five inches in the rear. Improved dampers, a larger rear stabilizer bar and robust spring rings are also added. Specialty Vehicle Engineering has released a few renditions of the truck that, strangely, represent the GMC on the Yas Marina F1 circuit in Abu Dhabi, and give the impression that it is almost as wide as the entire racing surface.

A stainless steel cat-back exhaust enhances the sound, while five-spoke black wheels with red "Syclone" graphics and high-performance tires complete the exterior design. All trim is blackened and the hood wears the chrome and red "455 HP" badges. On the hatchback, you'll see a huge "Syclone" sticker in the original 1990s script. Inside, the truck receives embroidered graphics on the seats and floor mats. Although not being OEM, everything looks incredibly well done.

Only 100 examples will be made, and according to Roadshowit will cost $ 39,995 in addition to the cost of the donor truck. This means a total starting price of about $ 63,000. according to Roadshow, the truck can be ordered from your local GMC dealer.

Is this thing called Syclone? Hard to say. Specialized vehicle engineering provided no acceleration statistics for the truck tuned. For us, this thing will have to be fast enough to earn the Syclone badge: the original GMC could spank a LT1 Corvette from the early 90's, which was 0-60 in the five-second high range. To reiterate this feat, a "new" Syclone should outperform the current Stingray, which sprints by three big ones.

We doubt that this "new Syclone" will be so fast. Anyway, it's a fun and modern tribute to one of the biggest performance surprises of all time.
