OnePlus 7 Pro will feature a Quad HD + screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz

OnePlus has maintained a dual flagship launch cycle in recent years, launching a new device every six months. This should change this year as the company introduces a 5G-compatible device with the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 itself will have several variants, including a Pro version that dramatically changes the specs.

We can now reveal that the OnePlus 7 Pro will offer a significant upgrade on the display side, thanks to a Quad HD + Super AMOLED display with a high refresh rate of 90Hz. The phone will also offer USB 3.1 connectivity, a larger 4000 mAh battery with 30 W Warp Charge, stereo speakers and three cameras at the rear – a main sensor connected by a telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens. The information comes through Ishan Agarwal, which has proven itself with regard to OnePlus leaks.

OnePlus has been offering 1080p panels since the very beginning. Switching to a QHD + panel is therefore an important upgrade. It should allow the OnePlus 7 Pro to resist the best of Android. Another notable addition is the 90Hz refresh rate. It's not the first time we've seen high-refresh rate displays on Android – the Razer phone wins that honor – but the OnePlus 7 Pro will be the first consumer phone to feature this feature.

Most phones have a refresh rate of 60 Hz, with the screen updating 60 times per second. With a refresh rate of 90Hz, this jumps up to 90 times per second. This translates into smoother interactions in just about every application, with the screen dynamically changing the refresh rate and better gameplay. If you play a game with more than 60 frames per second, a high refresh rate panel makes all the difference. However, there is less than a handful of titles supporting 90Hz on Android, but with OnePlus joining the move, we should see more games added to the list.

Razer uses a custom display controller to dynamically adjust the refresh rate. It is likely that OnePlus will take a similar approach with OnePlus 7 Pro. Current rumors point to an official unveiling on May 14. So we have a little less than a month to see this new screen in action.
