Outside now]Metal Slug Infinity is a new inactive RPG of ekkorr, available in pre-registration.

SNK has licensed the Metal Slug trademark to a mobile development company known as ekkorr. Ekkorr has had some success on the Play Store with its inactive RPG, Endless Frontier Saga 2. So it's no surprise that the upcoming release of Metal Slug Infinity is a continuation of the classic Run and Gun series, but rather an inactive game taking advantage of the inspiring resources of Metal Slug nostalgia. It is available on the Play Store for pre-registration.

The trailer above surely looks like part of a Metal Slug game, though it's clear that its gameplay will revolve around simple catch controls, collectible heroes and a kind of allied battle system. If you've ever played an inactive RPG, know what to expect. In general, this is a very casual genre in which you spend most of your time managing your troops and equipment, and I have not seen anything to behave differently.

In all likelihood, Metal Slug Infinity will be available for free on the Play Store. All signs are present, including a presentation text at the bottom of the Play Store listing stating that in-app purchases will be included. It is also clear that advertisements will appear in one form or another. Unfortunately, the prices of the PIAs have not been announced. So we can hope that the monetization will not be too obvious, but honestly, I doubt it.

It seems strange to me that a nostalgic property such as Metal Slug is licensed to a developer looking to create an inactive RPG. I find it hard to believe that there is an important mix of hardcore shooters fans and casual hobbyists. Of course, name recognition is probably the most important factor for such a decision, but it's not as if fans of the main series would be happy with this release. So, I have to ask who is this game for? Unfortunately, I do not have an answer to that.
