Apple Music on Sonos now works with Alexa

Apple Music subscribers can now control music playback on Sonos speakers using voice control via Amazon Alexa. The feature works in the United States and the UK on the Sonos One and Sonos Beam smart speakers, joining the Amazon Echo speakers, based on the Apple Music skill of the Alexa app.

The voice control on the Sonos speakers with Alexa integration has allowed to avoid songs, to play / pause, to control the volume and almost every other Alexa skill, but the Apple Music control via Alexa required further integration.

Sonos has been able to play on Apple Music since December 2015 and the Amazon Echo Smart Speakers got playback support with Alexa Voice Control in December 2018. Amazon has promised that the speakers non-Echo speakers with Alexa would gain in the future the Apple Music control.

This future is today. Simply update the Sonos app, activate the Apple Music skill in the Alexa app if you have not already done it, and link your account.

Sonos One and Sonos Beam integrate integrated voice control with Amazon Alexa (or Google Assistant, which does not yet work with Apple Music). Direct voice control is therefore limited to these two models. This means less time to manage the Sonos app and more time to listen to music.

Sonos One and Sonos Beam also support AirPlay 2, Apple's wireless audio streaming protocol, which works with sound in multiple rooms with other AirPlay 2 speakers, including HomePod. Sonos Playbase and Sonos Play: 5 (second generation) also work with AirPlay 2 but do not have Alexa integration.
